How Often Should You Post? A Realistic Guide

Consistency Beats Hustle: Find a Posting Schedule That Works for You

When it comes to marketing your business online, there’s one question we hear all the time:

“How often should I be posting?”

And our honest answer? It depends—but let’s make it realistic.

You don’t need to post every day to succeed, and you definitely don’t need to dance on TikTok at 9 a.m. on a Monday (unless that’s your thing). What you do need is a sustainable strategy that fits your time, your goals, and your audience.

Let’s break it down.

First: What Are You Trying to Achieve?

The ideal posting schedule depends on what you're hoping to get out of your content. Ask yourself:

  • Are you building brand awareness?
  • Do you want to drive traffic to your website?
  • Are you trying to stay top-of-mind with your local audience?
  • Or maybe you're launching a new service or product?

💡 Your goals help shape your rhythm. You don’t need to be everywhere all the time—you just need to show up consistently where it counts.

Social Media Posting: Less Is More (If It’s Consistent)

For most small businesses, 2–4 posts per week on your primary platform (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.) is a solid sweet spot.

  • Think quality over quantity. One valuable post that educates, entertains, or engages your audience is worth more than five rushed ones.
  • Mix it up. Aim for a balance of promotional content, behind-the-scenes, client highlights, and helpful tips.

👉 If that still feels like too much, start with 1 post per week and build from there.

Blogging: Twice a Month Is Plenty

We love blogs (obviously), but we also know they take time. If you’re using content to boost your SEO, aim for 1–2 blogs per month—that’s enough to show Google (and your audience) that your site is active and helpful.

And bonus: you can repurpose blog content into multiple social posts, emails, and even print materials.

Email Newsletters: Monthly or Quarterly

If you're building an email list (and we hope you are!), keep your newsletter cadence manageable.

  • Monthly is great for staying connected.
  • Quarterly is fine if your business is seasonal or you’re just starting out.

The key: provide value. A quick tip, an update, or even a friendly check-in goes a long way.

What’s “Realistic” Actually Look Like?

Here’s a basic, low-stress content schedule most small businesses can manage:

  • 1–2 social posts per week
  • 1 blog post per month
  • 1 email every 4–6 weeks

That’s it. And it’s enough to build momentum, strengthen your brand, and stay top-of-mind in your community.

🙌 Start where you are. Scale as you go.

You Don’t Need to Do It All, You Just Need a Plan

Posting consistently doesn’t mean constantly. The best strategy is the one you can actually stick to.
