Social Media Strategy for Small Businesses:

Steps to Grow in 2025

Social media can feel overwhelming, especially when trends change every five minutes (or at least it seems like it). But if you’re a small business owner, having a solid social media strategy isn’t optional—it’s essential. It shouldn't be a daunting task though! You don’t need to be on every platform or post every day to make an impact. In 2025, success is all about strategy over hustle. Here’s a good place to start:

Define Your Goals

Before you even think about posting, ask yourself:

What do I want to achieve with social media?

Do you want to drive traffic to your website, build brand awareness, generate leads, or grow a community? Defining your goals helps you focus on the right platforms and content rather than wasting time on what doesn’t move the needle.

Choose the Right Platforms

Gone are the days when businesses needed to be everywhere. Unless you have a large audience on every platform, there's really no need to stress over having an account for everything. Instead, pick two or three platforms where your audience is most active.  Here’s a quick breakdown:

  • Instagram & TikTok – Great for visual brands, e-commerce, and businesses targeting younger audiences.
  • Facebook – Ideal for community engagement and local businesses.
  • LinkedIn – A must for B2B businesses and professional services.
  • Pinterest – Perfect for businesses in home decor, fashion, and lifestyle.
  • YouTube – If video content is your strength, this is the place to be. Focus your energy where it counts!

Now, one thing to note is that though you may not need to be on every platform, there are social media tools that make it easy to post to all of your accounts at once! You may need to do some adjusting to your media based on the formatting of the platform, but it can be as simple as clicking a button to get your message out on all of your accounts. Just ask us; it's what we do!

Create a Content Plan

Consistency is key, but that doesn’t mean you have to post daily. A realistic content plan will keep you from burning out. Try weaving in some of these content frameworks to your weekly posting:

  • Educational Content – Share tips, how-tos, and industry insights.
  • Engaging Content – Ask questions, run polls, or post behind-the-scenes content. People want to engage to build a personal connection to your brand!
  • Promotional Content – Showcase your products/services without being too sales-y.
  • User-Generated Content – Repost customer reviews and testimonials. Mix these up throughout the week and batch-create content when possible to stay ahead. Batching is also a great general tip if you know you'll be too busy to create content!

Talk to Your Audience

Social media isn’t a one-way street. Respond to comments, interact with followers, and engage with other accounts in your industry. Algorithms reward interaction, so the more conversations you spark, the more visibility your content gets.

Leverage Video Content

Short-form video is still king in 2025. TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts are powerful tools for reaching new audiences. You don’t need fancy equipment—just a smartphone, decent lighting, and a clear message. Keep videos short, engaging, and authentic. Most people don't watch videos like they used to, so short-form is key here.

Track What's Working

You don’t need to be a data expert, but checking your insights can help you refine your strategy. Look at engagement rates, website clicks, and follower growth to see what content resonates. Then, do more of what works and less of what doesn’t.

A successful social media strategy in 2025 isn’t about doing the most—it’s about doing what works. Define your goals, focus on the right platforms, create engaging content, and interact with your audience. Stay consistent, and you’ll see results without feeling overwhelmed! And remember, if maintaining your social media presence on your own feels like too much work, that's what we're here for!
